Vale AGM

Last night we attended the Vale of Glamorgan Annual General Meeting.  At the meeting the newly elected councillors elected a new Mayor and Deputy Mayor for 2017-2018.

The Vale councillors also elected a new Leader of the Council who then announced the new Cabinet and their responsibilities which are set out in portfolios.

After the meeting we spoke to some of the newly elected Councillors.  It was great to promote the Youth Cabinet to the new Youth Champion who is also Deputy Vale Mayor, the new Leader of the Council and the new Cabinet Member for Education and Culture.

We are looking forward to our first joint meeting with the new Cabinet this term.

Accreditation

At tonight's meeting we finally finished our ACU workbook: Young People's Participation - Having a Voice.  Over the last couple of months we have been working towards this qualification and have created a survey to find out what young people think of the Vale Youth Service and the youth clubs and projects they attend.

Along the way we have learnt about the importance of involving young people in decision-making, the benefits of consultation and also how to overcome barriers to ensuring young people's voices are heard.  Tonight we completed the final part of the workbook and reflected on the consultation process. We are looking forward to presenting our findings to the Youth Service and the report will be ready soon!
